What qualifies a restoration company to tell their community and prospective clients that they have the training and expertise required to call themselves professionals, and to restore your home?

The IICRC stands for the “Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification.” They are the governing body over mitigation certifications. They exist to protect consumers against poor restoration practices. As an organization comprised of restoration experts they have also written standards for proper restoration services in all applicable areas.

For instance, the S500 is THE standard for water damage restoration, recognized even in court rooms for its value in presenting standard practice: http://www.iicrc.org/standards/iicrc-s500/

The S550 is the standard written specifically for large-scale commercial drying projects: http://www.iicrc.org/standards/iicrc-s500/

Restoring Your Home

Frankly, not all employees in restoration companies typically have even a basic water restoration certificate from the IICRC. Some companies rely on one or two experienced technicians to “run” jobs, while the company’s other employees take directives from their supervisors.

At Delta, we feel that all our employees should be trained as well as possible. We don’t want an inexperienced technician without certification doing repairs for you. You’ve spent years investing in your home and creating memories with your family. You deserve a company who has high certification awards to their name.

What Makes One Company Better than Another

Aside from IICRC certifications, there are a few other considerations. Not all restoration companies do this type of work full-time. Some are, for instance, carpet cleaning companies that dabble in restoration. If restoration work is not their primary business, they may not be the right company for you.

Do they offer reconstruction services? Many restoration companies handle only the initial part of a loss. They’ll come out to your home and dry out all the water, and do some light demolition. Then they leave and let a separate company come in to do the final repairs.

At Delta, restoration is our only business. And, we offer reconstruction after the initial loss. So, you know when you call us that the entire process will be handled by one company, start to finish.
