As part of our dedication to bringing the greatest value possible to our community, we regularly offer continuing education classes to insurance agents, realtors, and property managers. We want people who work with homeowners and renters in our community to have the greatest knowledge possible concerning our industry, so that they in turn can better serve the Grand Valley.
Our next CE class for insurance agents will be on April 12th from 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM, on the topic of homeowner’s insurance. Our homeowner’s insurance class is typically by far our most popular, and will fill up fast!
Today’s blog post will be a very brief preview of our upcoming class. If you are an insurance agent in our area and want to attend the class, be sure to let us know.
The most ancient form of insurance existed in non-financial economies in the form of people helping one another. If one neighbor’s house burned down, the rest of the community would come together and build a new home. Premiums were paid by lending a helping hand.
Lloyd’s of London
In 1688, Mr. Edward Lloyd opened a coffee house in the London ship yard area. Lloyd’s Coffee House soon became a popular meeting spot for ship owners, merchants, captains, and those wishing to insure ships. Over time, Lloyd’s Coffee House became known as the place to go for marine insurance.
More than 300 years later, Lloyd’s of London is the world’s premier specialty insurance company.
Waldo Canyon and Black Forest Fires
As a direct result of the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest fires, the Colorado House of Representatives and the Colorado Senate passed new bills, which both became law January 1, 2014. These legislative actions were the result of overwhelming consumer dissatisfaction toward insurance companies following the fires.
Phones were ringing off the hook at the Colorado Department of Insurance and the offices of the state legislatures. These new bills resulted in an overhaul of all new Homeowner’s policies to be written, or renewed, since that date.
Homeowner’s policies have since become much more specific, and individual insurance agents are held to much higher standards to ensure that their clients are adequately insured.
Continuing education in the form of homeowner’s insurance is also one of the requirements that came from the new 2014 bills. So we will see you at our class for a great morning of education!
