2018 Western Colorado Fire Summit

2018 Western Colorado Fire Summit

2018 Western Colorado Fire Summit

This October 17th, Delta Disaster Services will co-host the 2018 Western Colorado Fire Summit in Grand Junction. Fire summits are common on the Front Range, but this is the first event of its kind on the Western Slope. We hope to make this a yearly event for the community.

The event is also hosted by the Grand Junction Fire Department and Knott Labs (the forensic engineering firm teaching the class). The goal is to educate fire fighters, fire investigators, and other professionals involved in fire losses to have the best information possible to serve the community.

Fire Damage Education

When fires occur in a home the results are devastating. Even small fires can cause massive smoke damage. The smoke can become pressurized and push deep into fabrics, plastics, electronics, and even walls. Keeping families safe from fire hazards is a major job, and restoring properties affected by fires is equally complex.

The Grand Junction Fire Department, Knott Labs, and Delta Disaster Services will be educating insurance agents and adjusters, legal, and fire professionals. Fire fighters, engineers, and industry experts will teach the basics of fire scene evaluation, evidence preservation, and fire repair protocols. Our aim is to educate attendees on the technical aspects of handling a fire, and how the various agencies and people involved can assist in creating the best outcomes for fire-damaged property owners.

Live Burn

The course will include a live burn after the morning session at CMU. Delta Disaster Services will construct two small dwellings at the Fire Department’s training grounds. One dwelling will be filled with a small couch, clothing, and other contents typically found in a home. Both dwellings will be lit on fire, and attendees to the class will see how the fire consumes the dwellings and contents. Once the fires are put out, attendees will then receive further education on the processes involved in restoring the dwellings back to their pre-disaster state.
